Instituto Cervantes Highlights a New Vision of Gabriel García Márquez in Cairo and Alexandria

The Instituto Cervantes in Cairo and Alexandria, in collaboration with the Embassy of Colombia
in Egypt, is hosting a special literary event titled “Soledad y compañía A New Vision of Gabriel
García Márquez.” The first session takes place tonight, Sunday, 23 November 2025, at the institute’s
Dokki centre in Cairo, followed by a second session tomorrow, Monday, 24 November, at the Alexandria
branch Both events begin at 7:00 p.m, with free admission offered until all seats are filled The sessions
will be conducted in Spanish
Instituto Cervantes: Silvana Paternostro Presents Soledad y compañía
Colombian author and journalist Silvana Paternostro will present her acclaimed book Soledad
y compañía, which offers a multilayered and intimate portrait of Gabriel García Márquez The
work weaves together testimonies from friends, admirers, critics and colleagues, revealing the
human story behind one of the most influential literary figures of the 20th century
The event will be moderated by Dr. Riham Ezzat, professor at the Faculty of Al-Alsun, Ain Shams University

Paternostro’s book sheds light on García Márquez’s dual legacy the novelist who reshaped
world literature and the journalist whose investigative perspective and political insight marked
an entire era The narrative also highlights how new generations of Colombian writers have
