LG Reinvents AC Production with Eco Materials and Lower Emissions

LG Electronics has unveiled a new, environmentally conscious manufacturing process for its 4-way system air conditioners, as part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability and its “Better Life for All” ESG vision.
.This move supports LG’s long-term goals for reducing carbon emissions and plastic usage across its production lines
Significant Cut in CO₂ Emissions Confirmed by TÜV Rheinland
Global testing and certification leader TÜV Rheinland has verified that LG’s upgraded production process lowers carbon emissions to just 14.85 kg of CO₂ equivalents per unit for its 4-way system air conditioners.
.The drop is largely attributed to a new exterior panel material and an advanced foaming injection molding technique
Eco-Conscious Materials: Polypropylene Replaces ABS
In a key move toward greener production, LG replaced traditional Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) plastic with Polypropylene (PP), which carries a lower carbon footprint.
The company also introduced foaming injection molding, where nitrogen gas is injected to form internal bubbles, cutting plastic use by approximately 900 grams per unit.
:These innovations are projected to save
270 tons of plastic annually
Over 4,400 tons of CO₂ equivalent emissions per year
Equivalent to the CO₂ absorbed in one year by a 30-year-old pine forest covering 580+ soccer fields
Sustainable Production Begins with 4-Way System Models
.LG began applying its eco-friendly foaming technique to 4-way system air conditioners in June 2025
.The company has announced plans to gradually expand this process to other residential and commercial air conditioning models in the near future
LG’s Roadmap to Carbon Neutrality by 2030
.As part of its Sustainability Report, LG is targeting a 54.6% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 compared to 2017 levels
:To achieve this, the company is
Incorporating high-efficiency equipment
Using renewable energy in manufacturing
Developing energy-saving appliances through its proprietary Core Tech
A standout example of this innovation is LG’s inverter motor technology, which dynamically adjusts motor and compressor speeds to reduce energy waste.
New Inverter Scroll Chiller Uses Lower GWP Refrigerant
LG has also launched an inverter scroll chiller that uses R32 refrigerant, which has a Global Warming Potential (GWP) roughly 30% lower than R410A, reinforcing the company’s commitment to environmentally compliant solutions.
LG’s Commitment to Sustainable HVAC Solutions
“The new material and manufacturing process we’ve introduced for our 4-way system air conditioner underscores our efforts to minimize environmental impacts,” said Bae Cheung-hyun, Head of the System Air Conditioners Business at LG Electronics.
“LG will continue to leverage innovative technologies to develop eco-conscious air conditioners for a healthier planet.”
