DP World Egypt Elevates Sokhna Port to New Heights as Egypt’s Premier Gateway for Global Trade, Energy, and Tourism

Landmark LNG Vessel Arrival Highlights Sokhna’s Role in Egypt’s Energy Security
DP World Egypt celebrated a historic week at Ain Sokhna Port with the docking of the Energos Eskimo, a Floating Storage Regasification Unit
(FSRU) operated by New Fortress Energy (NFE). This LNG vessel is undergoing critical technical upgrades, including modifications to its high-pressure gas manifold,
in preparation for its next mission at SUMED Port. Upon arrival, the Energos Eskimo will inject natural gas directly into Egypt’s national grid,
reinforcing the country’s energy resilience and stable gas supply.
This milestone underscores Sokhna Port’s expanding capabilities in handling complex energy operations, positioning it as a strategic hub within Egypt’s
maritime and energy sectors.
Record-Breaking Iron Ore Shipment Strengthens Egypt’s Industrial Growth
In addition to the LNG operation, Sokhna Port received the Berge Kuju, a 300-meter dry bulk vessel carrying a record 180,008 tonnes
of iron ore from Brazil destined for Ezz Steel. This shipment marks the largest iron ore delivery ever recorded at an Egyptian port. Efficient unloading
was achieved through Sokhna’s deep-water berths and high-capacity mobile cranes, highlighting the port’s operational efficiency in managing large-scale bulk cargo.
This shipment is part of a long-term strategic agreement supporting over 6 million tonnes of annual iron ore throughput, further solidifying Sokhna Port’s critical role
in Egypt’s manufacturing and industrial sectors.
Expansion of Cruise Tourism with Return of Aroya Cruise Ship
Sokhna Port also welcomed the Aroya cruise ship on its second visit under an annual partnership with Cruise Saudi. Carrying 2,300 passengers,DP World Egypt
the smooth disembarkation and customs clearance processes illustrate Sokhna’s growing prominence as a regional cruise tourism hub. The influx
of cruise visitors continues to stimulate Egypt’s local economy, boosting sectors such as transportation, hospitality, and retail in the region.
Mohammad Shihab, CEO of DP World Egypt, emphasized, “Our investments in terminal capacity and integrated logistics solutions are enabling
Egypt to support diversified maritime operations spanning heavy industry to tourism.”
Future Outlook: Sokhna Logistics Park to Boost Egypt’s Trade and Export Competitiveness
DP World Egypt is investing $80 million in the near-completion of the Sokhna Logistics Park, a state-of-the-art multimodal supply chain facility designed
to enhance trade infrastructure, reduce logistical bottlenecks, and attract foreign investment. This project aims to improve Egypt’s export competitiveness
and further establish Sokhna as a vital gateway for global trade.
